Capezzana is owned and managed by the Contini Bonacossi’s since 1920. Today, the fourth and fifth generations are running together the winery. The family’s approach has always been oriented towards the quality, respect for the nature and the sustainable development of the tradition. As Conte Ugo Contini Bonacossi loved to say “tradition should be seen not as something established and immovable, like a ‘statue’, but rather as a line along which we move: a ship following a long route…”.
Carmignano is a small Tuscan area, 30 Km west from Florence, where wine was produced since Etruscan times. Smallest Tuscan DOCG, recognized since vintage 1988, it is one of the world’s first four appellations introduced in 1716 by the Grand Duke of Tuscany. For the appellation, Carmignano wines need to blend at least 65% of Sangiovese with from10- 20% of Cabernet which was brought in the 1500 to this area by Caterina de’ Medici.
Tenuta di Capezzana is proud to be certified Organic and to represent the character of the land of origin using natural territorial yeasts, eliminating the need for starter yeasts in the fermentation process.
